Heritage designated home gets a whole home renovation
Heritage designation and extensive underpinning were potential barriers to this project that involved stripping all three levels to the bare structure and completely renovating the entire home.
The dark main level required more light and functionality, while the low, small basement lacked living space. All existing walls in the dining and family areas were removed and a glass-enclosed foyer, custom floating staircase were installed to let in natural light. A bright, contemporary kitchen featured antique fixtures, custom millwork, and premier appliances. To create a full-height basement, five feet underpinning through clay was dug by hand from a crawlspace.
To satisfy Heritage requirements, new thermal leaded glass windows, stonework, and facade were done to exactly match the look of those existing previously.
